I’m supporting two causes close to my heart. After my nephew’s diagnosis, I wanted funds to go to the Sam Day Foundation to support vital childhood cancer research. I’m also honoring the legacy of Eliza Grover, through her memorial fund to keep her service-driven legacy alive.
I believe in the power of science to educate, empower, and uplift communities when there is trusted and equal access to process and products of scientific research.
The Mission District was a very important part of my life. I grew up surrounded by the richness and beauty of my Latino-Chicano culture, went to elementary and middle school there, and later worked in the community through my college years and beyond. As someone who worked and went to school in the Mission, I am not only touched by the efforts being made by Carnaval SF and the Latino Task Force but extremely proud and inspired by the continual leadership, dedication, and commitment of the community organizers, who consistently show up and engage the community to preserve our culture, language, traditions, and provide culturally competent services.
Education matters deeply to me and my career was shaped by strong school and scholarships, so I directed funds to institutions I attended. I also supported food aid organizations, since childhood hunger harms learning, and the Chicago Fair Trade Museum to uplift small producers.

Explora is an interactive science center in Albuquerque, New Mexico that values learning, community, flexibility and people for creating racial equity in STEAM, echoing what we hold valuable at CZI. Volunteering at Explora started me on a path that led me eventually to CZI.

I’ve supported the LA fire recovery effort and a no-kill animal shelter. These decisions were not made lightly — we’ve been deeply moved by those affected by the fires and by the animals in need after adopting two cats from a local shelter.

Supporting public education has been a huge part of my life since my daughter started kindergarten in 2008. My husband and I are passionate animal lovers — especially when it comes to dogs. When we discovered Muttville, we were immediately drawn to their incredible mission of rescuing senior dogs from euthanasia and giving them the second chance at life they so deeply deserve.

Too often, LGBTQ+ youth are forced into attempts to change their sexual orientation through harmful and completely unscientific practices. Born Perfect is working to dismantle the conversion therapy industry through policy and public education across the country.

SELAH provides direct services to Angelenos experiencing homelessness and pushes for housing policy. Using the CZI volunteer hours, I hand out clothing and hot meals to my unhoused neighbors. I’m grateful for the opportunity to support my neighbors weekly and in the long term.

I focused on organizations making a positive impact on K-8 students - the HEAL Project providing an educational farm-based curriculum to supplement classroom learning, and the Kennedy Middle School PTO providing enrichment activities which have limited support from the district.

I split my gift between the Electronic Frontier Foundation and the ACLU of Idaho. The EFF defends privacy and free expression online, while the ACLU protects constitutional rights in our communities. Together, these organizations are advocating for our rights—online and off.
